Famous Lost Words: Marilyn Manson
We will no longer be oppressed by the fascism called Christianity. We will no longer be oppressed by the mentality of the police state.– Marilyn Manson, shouted at the concert in Santa Monica in January, 1997, quoted from Sara Reich, “Manson spits, hits and cuts in Santa Monica,” in USC’s The Daily Trojan (January 28, 1997)
Whether you interpret the Bible as literature or as the final word of whatever God may be, Christianity has given us an image of death and sexuality that we have based our culture around. A half-naked dead man hangs in most homes and around our necks, and we have just taken that for granted all of our lives.– Marilyn Manson, responding to complaints from uptight Christian parents that his rock shows celebrate violence, in an interview on beliefnet.com, 2001

ugh, that is a horrible quote. Anyone who would say that about Jesus has absolutlely no idea what He is really about. ugh

The scary thing is that he went to a Christian (not Catholic) school, and should know full well that Protestants generally do NOT have a crucifix, but a cross, in their homes and around their necks. I would dare suggest that he’s not just “passively lost” (doesn’t know), but is rather “actively lost”–he knows better but is actively promoting what he knows not to be true.
Yikes.
