EVTALES on Vacation Till Next Monday!

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I’m heading to a monastery for a few days to read, relax, and to get ready for the next phase of our evangelism ministry.
I will not be around a computer, so I will not post anything new until Monday, October 1. However, check out the daily blog that Ray Comfort is writing from Europe, read [...]

Hope and Comfort in Europe

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

The Way of the Master team is in Europe covering thirteen countries in thirteen days.
They have created a blog to report all the exciting things that are happening as they open air preach in countries that have forgotten God. The episodes they are shooting will be for their fourth season T.V. series. Read their [...]

Whatever Happened to Personal Evangelism?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Here is an article from the editor of Charisma Magazine bemoaning the fact that so few Christians share their faith.
You don’t have to be a Charismatic or Pentacostal to agree with him. He writes:
It seems as if personal evangelism is a dying art. Fewer of us are taking our faith beyond familiar circles of [...]

Open Air Preaching Speech

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

This is the sermon that our open air preachers preach at the DMV and Social Security offices. Copy it, print it, memorize it, and give it a go. This is about an 8 - 10 minute sermonette, and tells everything a sinner needs to know to repent and trust in the savior. This is adapted [...]

Miracle Miles

Monday, September 24th, 2007

What a difference a few miles make!
In Hermosa Beach a few weeks ago, at the Fiesta Hermosa, angry people shouted us down when we preached the gospel and shared our faith; tracts would get tossed aside and there was a general spirit of indifference and rebellion.
But last Saturday the situation was very different indeed! In [...]

Sudden Death: On the Throne!

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Here is another collection of people who have died suddenly on the… well, you know…
King George II died on the toilet in 1760 at the age of 77.
He woke up at six that morning, drank a little chocolate, and an hour later went to the bathroom, where he died of a ruptured aorta.
Evelyn Waugh, one [...]

FOUNDations: D. L. Moody (1837 - 1899)

Friday, September 21st, 2007

“It is a good thing to get a man on his knees, but don’t get him there before he is ready. You may have to talk with him two hours before you can get him that far, but when you think he is about ready, say, ‘Shall we not ask God to give us light [...]

Rear Window Witness

Friday, September 21st, 2007

GET EVEN WITH TAILGATERS AND BACKSLIDERS!
This sure beats a fish on the bumper or the “Jesus Loves You” sticker on the trunk lid, or the “God is my co-pilot” sign on the dashboard, or the “In case of rapture, this car will be empty” license plate holder, etc.

(Thanks to Anna “Banana” Jackson for this creative [...]

What’s Your E-vangie Tale #22

Friday, September 21st, 2007

With the start of our new evangelism class last night begins a new series of “What’s Your E-vangie Tale?”.
The homework for the class includes a challenge to hand out at least one Gospel tract every day of the class. The students get 1 point each day that they hand one out and an extra [...]

The Vegas Hustler

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

This is one of my favorite interviews from “The Way of the Master” T.V. show called “The Greatest Gamble,” an episode about the reasonableness and rationality of Hell. Ray Comfort interviews a hardened, cold, uncaring gambler/hustler on the street of Sin City, and despite the man’s aloof responses to eternal truths, Ray perseveres until the [...]

A Fair to Remember

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

This Saturday, the evangelism team will be going to the Richmond Street Fair in El Segundo to witness to all those who didn’t make it to the Fiesta Hermosa. Next week: The 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica and after that, USC Football at the L.A. Coliseum. For all the details, including times and where [...]

GodTube Evangelism

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Last week I explained the importance of posting evangelistic videos to YouTube, but there’s another unique opportunity: GodTube.
Why? It’s a great way to show the non-evangelizing Christian how to witness, it convicts the backsliders, fakers, and religious hypocrites; and these videos encourage those who are faithful to Jesus’ command to “Go!”
I was surprised to [...]

Persecution By Percentages

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

(This is the conclusion of my 7-part Fiesta Hermosa perspectives series. Click here to start the series.)
Five angry emails, two mean voicemails, and a nasty postcard were all I received from people offended at our open air preaching and Gospel tract distribution during the Labor Day weekend pagan celebration called Fiesta Hermosa.
One person wrote that [...]

Weak, Wimpy—and Wrong—Witness #2

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Take the easy way out of actually saying something to the lost by wearing a shirt that glorifies the film “Napoleon Dynamite.”

Sudden Deaths: Weekend in Canada

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Paul Latour lives in Canada and is a frequent commentator to this blog. In response to our Labor Day evangelism event at the Fiesta Hermosa (read all 6 parts so far, starting here), he put into very practical terms the urgency that is needed—using whatever means possible—in getting the Word out. Here are his comments:
In [...]

FOUNDations: Spurgeon on Open Air Preaching

Friday, September 14th, 2007

The naysayer says it’s a waste of time to preach to people on street corners because no one is listening. The store owner says he’s bad for business. The timid Christian is embarrassed by what he says… Listen to what the Prince of Preachers, Charles Spurgeon (1834 – 1892), had to say about all this [...]

God is my Homeboy!

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

In a recent sermon, I taught on “The Fear of the Lord.” As an illustration, I video-taped people answering the question: Do you fear God? Of course, very few did—no surprise. This is why we hit the Fiesta Hermosa on Labor Day weekend with a vengeance. People don’t understand—don’t want to understand, nor believe—that they [...]

The M.O. of Anger

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

BY ED LEE
(This perspective was written in response to the five angry emails and two voicemails received from fair-goers voicing displeasure with our evangelistic zeal at the Fiesta Hermosa last Labor Day Weekend. )
It is amazing to me how much negativity can be stirred up by just a handful of disgruntled sinners.
Letters to the press. [...]

9/11 Perspective: Screeching or Teaching?

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I have received a few emails from people who were upset at the evangelists who preached at the bus stops on Labor Day weekend at the Fiesta Hermosa. But time is of the essence in our minds… Every person who died on 9/11/01 thought they too had another day to live.

The following article was [...]

Lost Liberties Regained: Woman Wins Free Speech Rights

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Orange County, Florida, has settled a lawsuit with a woman who claimed her First Amendment rights were violated when county employees prohibited her from distributing religious literature in a local public park. Read the rest here.

Weak, Wimpy—and Wrong—Witness

Monday, September 10th, 2007

With all the recent flak we took at the Fiesta Hermosa last weekend, it might have been a better idea to just wear this T-shirt—and smile! No ruckus. No offense. No repentance. Of course, there is no salvation, but that is besides the point; it would make everybody happy—except God…
…and all those in torment [...]

Fiesta Hermosa Good News

Monday, September 10th, 2007

BY BILL AND INGRID CASLIN
(Read the story that inspired this here.)
I had to send you some good news about the fair. My wife, Ingrid, and I were walking through the fair after our shift at the Gospel tract booth. Ingrid bought some sunglasses from a shop that was in the Fiesta Hermosa and she gave [...]

Sudden Death: Heat Wave!

Monday, September 10th, 2007

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials have named a fifth victim of the recent Southern California heat wave. Officials found Margaret Civick, 88, dead in her residence on Wednesday. The air conditioning was not on. At least five people have died in the county of heat-related issues since Aug. 31. (L.A. Times 9/08/07)
I wonder if anyone [...]

Fiesta Hermosa: The Good, the Bad, and the Godly

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

A plane flew overhead pulling a huge banner that said “WiCKED”. People walked about the Fiesta Hermosa holding brochures advertising the play “WiCKED! My daughter excitedly showed me some free sunscreen she had obtained. Emblazoned boldly on the little tube was the word: “WiCKED”.
Up Pier Avenue and in front of the shuttle bus stop, fearless [...]

Ahh, Venice!

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

We are going to the Venice Beach Boardwalk this Saturday.
We will be handing out tracts, sharing our faith one-to-one, and open air preach. Meet at Hope Chapel at noon. Read a previous adventure in Venice here.
Click here for the full evangelism schedule.

Clown Communion

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

This is what happens when the Biblical Gospel is not preached.
When you first view this video you will at first shake your head in disbelief, then have mixed emotions ranging from laughter, to horror, to sadness, to disgust.
This is an actual clown-led Eucharist service from Trinity Church at St. Paul’s Chapel in New York, using [...]

No Fear of the Lord

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

In case you haven’t noticed, the world has changed—a lot. There is no fear of God anymore.
God in the minds of many people is a great, big, generous Sugar Daddy in the sky who will not hold anyone accountable for their actions.
Everyone does what is right in their own eyes…
This is why our our evangelists [...]

Fury at the Fiesta!

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

The “Prophetess” grabbed the million dollar bill Gospel tracts out of my hand then jammed them down the front of my shirt. Still, I kept my attention focused on the crowd at the bus stop, who stood not-so-silently as I preached the Gospel message…
This was just one of the reactions from the captive audience as [...]

Lost Liberties: One Man Parade Sues!

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

A man who says his constitutional rights were violated when he was arrested for passing out religious literature has filed a civil lawsuit against the city of Cumming, Georgia. His attorney says it’s an attempt to make sure the ordinance under which he was arrested is removed from the books.

This man was arrested for having [...]

(Not so) Sudden Death: Dead at 114

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

The world’s oldest person Yone Minagawa, who has died at age 114, was as sprightly as ever until the moment she got into bed for her eternal rest, her caretaker said Tuesday. Minagawa, who enjoyed good food and a bit of alcohol, died August 13 at a nursing home in Japan’s southwestern Fukuoka prefecture.
“She was [...]
